Hi All,
Well it's been a long time coming, but I finally got around to starting my first blog. Bear with me as this is the first time I have posted a blog!
Over the years, since I was a youngster, I have been hooked on TV shows, especially shows from the fifties to the early eighties. I began watching TV at age of four and was a HUGE fan of Batman (still am). Most of the shows I enjoyed growing up in the small Australian suburb of Glendale NSW are still being rerun today, over 40 years later!
I remember when I started school in 1968 at the age of five, that we used to collect Batman cards and swap them. I wish I still had them now!
Those were the days of black and white television sets which had three buttons, a circular knob to change the channels (We only had NBN and ABC), a contrast knob and a volume knob. I was an only child and my best friend lived just down the street from us. He was into sports and I remember watching all of the cricket matches at their place as well as football and of course Championship Wrestling! Ah those were the days. I didn't really care for watching sport as I was more interested in escapism. I participated in backyard cricket, soccer, table tennis, you name it, we played it. In those far off days we had great fun making cubby houses, which I did with the next door neighbors girls. They had a HUGE timber packing crate and we made a nice cosy little place with our mother's old curtains and blankets. Not long after, their father built a REAL one and it was situated in their backyard on the opposite side of their mulberry tree.
My friends and I were always walking along bush tracks, hiking and climbing our favourite -Mount Moneybung which overlooked most of the area.
Anyway, I'll add more stories later. The main reason for starting this blog is to share my memories of growing up and also to add information on some of the neglected TV shows from years gone by and some more recent ones.
I now reside in Gorokan on the Central Coast with my wife Ann and our menagerie. Over the years I made copious notes of many of the shows, films and actors that appeared in these productions. I used a portable manual typewrite when I first started and bought liquid paper every month or so. I eventually graduated to an electric typewriter!
Imagine if we had the internet and these great computers back then....
Before I outstay my welcome, I will also say that in the early 1990s I joined LISA (Lost In Space Australia) and through that fantastic club I met three lifelong friends (one of whom passed away last year). Peter, who resides in Umina, shared my interest in research and together we have amassed an amazing collection of information, episode guides, cast lists etc of numerous old shows, most of which is not available on the net. It's great to be productive and to create an accurate historical reference to these long forgotten gems of entertainment.
Cheers
Trevor
